Why is the original adaptation of fate stay/night so hated?

Everyone seems to love and praise fate/zero or ubw. I watched the original and liked alot. Nice final and character evolution, specially on Saber. Just felt little confuse like relling that tosaka and sakura are sister but no really explaining that much about it. Tell me your thoughts

It was from a time where adaptations weren't expected to be 1:1 with the source material, but unlike the Tsukihime manga, it managed to botch the subplots that were outside the scope of the Fate route.
I do agree that the hate for it is overstated, it nailed the music and atmosphere better than ufo ubw. People like to say the character designs were better back then, but it's a hit and miss for me. Just read the VN if you want the full experience.

Because its not good and ufotable ones are better even if they are mediocre as shit. Is it overhated? Sure you can make that claim it has better music and atmosphere then ufotable adaptations but thats about it. Just read the vn

Stumps of other routes were fucking stupid. Also slideshow animation, but that's expected of any studio Deen anime.
Other than that it's alright, aesthetically it's closer to VN than ufotable's UBW, but as always it's better to just read the VN.

The animation was bad

>bad animation
>Shirou looks like complete retard without any explanation behind his actions (problem with all FSN adaptations to different degree)
>brings up elements from other routes that should not be there
The only good things about it are great music and voice acting. Oh and making series more known in 2006, I'd give it that.

Can you tell me what references of the other routes are there? I thought was just the Sabre one

>Shirou looks like complete retard without any explanation behind his actions
To be fair to DEEN, it's really hard to show how deranged Shirou is without getting into his headscape. Ufo did a bad job at this too, but seeing him freak out over not being able to read Ea was one of the few times I think they did a good job at it.

Been a while since I watched it. From the top of my head
>Shirou vs Rin in the school and Rider attacking them
>the whole Medea and Kuzuki plot from UBW is present
>Sakura in bdsm outfit for some reason is also involved in Medea plot which was HF lite version, I guess

I liked it better than Ufo adaptations. Basically what this user said
>it nailed the music and atmosphere better than ufo
I'd say Deen version was closer to the VN in terms of how it felt - fairy tale-like romance with some chuuni action. Ufo adaptations focused more on fights than anything else so characters and atmosphere felt lackluster.

It serves as a better intro to the franchise than Zero, so it has that going for it.

Zero isn't supposed to be an introduction anyway, that's like watching The Phantom Menace first instead of the original Star Wars

yeah

Yeah but you'll have hundreds of retards saying watch it first, so I felt that needed to be said. The normalfag consensus (if you don't want to read the VN) is UBW or Zero and both have their issues when it comes to being someone's first impression of Fate/shit

People thought it was boring and VNfans never like an adaptation. At least it wasn't the JC stuff Tsukihime adaptation that totally butchered their designs. I liked Deen Stay Night. The Fate route is also the only route where Shirou and Saber together win the Grail War.

It isn't
japan love it for some reason

D/SN's just kinda meh if i'm being honest, like a five or six out of ten

but the crux of it is that most fate fans pre-FGO and before the ufotable stuff started bringing so many people into the fandom expected anime adaptations to be a 1;1 recreation of the visual novel, and wanted more out of it than was really possible. it's sort of like how most VN people aren't too fond of the dies irae/umineko/etc adaptations because they skip too much of the story

i don't like it because it sort of tries to be the fate route in execution but has parts of other routes weirdly cobbled in, probably because they didn't think they would ever get to them but it came out really tacky. also just the fact that shirou is a complete fucking moron in the fate route irks me whenever i try to read it, even if it kind of makes sense given his circumstances

but like, fate fans are infamous for how difficult they are to agree with in the first place lol. they'd rather throw that massive fucking chart in your face and revel in your confusion than explain that it's all based off a visual novel with three routes

Overall it's not that bad for the year it came out, not to mention it's interesting seeing them trying to be innovative like with the whole thing with Medea and the lesser grail after rewatching it. But the production was quite cheap and the story was all over the place without proper narration tacked on, so it's mediocre at best. At least it's successful in introducing the VN to me and my friends I guess.

Ty user. I've been looking for a google drive rip of HA for a long time. You're my hero.
