Holy fucking shit! I've never felt this sort of dread whil watching an anime or manga before. Usually I hate fluff and just want story progression, but this anime has me clenching my jaw at every chapter scared of what will happen next to Phosphophyllite.
I'm only on episode eight. Does the anime go to the end of the story or do I need to read the manga afterwards?
the show ends at chapter 36 of 97 but it skips ch 32-35 somewhat, especially the character ghost, I definitely recommend it, the manga is just as good and the story only gets more tragic and dreadful, have not seen a character that has undergone such traumatic change as phos does in the series

what anime is this?

The anime only adapts about a third of the manga (as of right now) and starts skipping some stuff near the end to try and find a point to wrap up the season, but I'd personally reccomend reading the manga from chapter 1 after you finish the anime. It's a good chance to get used to the artstyle and goes by pretty quickly anyway.

Land of the Lustrous, it a post-apocalyptic show about a bunch of gem people fighting these eerie ghost people that come from the moon, has a lot of Buddhism and philosophical topics in it, great show.

We're rapidly approaching five years since the anime aired with no word on a S2, so the manga is a must if you want more. I still have hope though, even if the hope is dwindling with each passing year
What said, and I'll add that even the manga isn't finished yet, though it appears to be approaching the end. We just suffered through an 18 month hiatus because the author got a PS5 but since it's resumed you'll get to skip that.
I recommend you leave now in case someone spoils things for you.

The end of winter was pure kino when Phos came and woke the other gems. The radically change in Phos was completely unexpected. I thought if anything Phos would have gone in the opposite direction and just shut down instead of becoming hyper capable.

just read and watch the actual thing and don't come to the threads
I dropped it at episode 8 and never went back. Phos is treated like shit and gets twisted by her circumstances. Don't appropriate that kind of story telling. Didn't even pass the main character torch to Diamond or Obsidian, while Phos sunk deeper into despair. Instead we just kinda go along with her, despite knowing how retarded it is. It's just a sadistic anime/manga, where the good characters get shit on and nothing good ever happens. When I realized that after episode 8 with spoilers from user, I lost all interest.
