Is there a point in buying any English manga/ranobe release (besides Berserk)?
It seems like every book is mistranslated, sanitized, over-localized, censored, and even outright pozz'd (like the recent Seven Sea's translation where they changed the plot from crossdressing to transsexualism).
Physical media thread
If it helps I hear the Tanya tl is alright and someone said that FotNS had a decent translation. I hear the Gundam Origin mangq is really good with great paper quality. Black Clover and Chainsaw Man are alright too from what I heard, though the latters choice for a logo bothers me.
The Kodansha reprints of Shaman King have tl notes at the end, although Chocoloves lips getting altered bothers me.
>(besides Berserk)
Why is Berserk an exception?
Thats why you check the translation and manga before.
Im collecting Made in Abyss and is 1:1 despite having loli stuff.
Must suck being EOP, the translations I know are faithful to the Japanese versions and I never saw any meme shit in a manga or gender stuff that wasn't part of the original story.
>Im collecting Made in Abyss and is 1:1 despite having loli stuff.
As I assumed. It's probably only done by a few publishers that want to bullshit their way through.
Seriously? Seven Seas is handling that one.
It's just by series, seven seas is 95% contractors so it can depend on the translator
Don't buy or read translations.
If you like a series and want it on your shelf buy it. Houseki no Kuni's official translations are pretty bad but I still buy them
This
Good print, decent translation, no censorship
So like 99% of manga then.
>kodansha
Fuck, I thought they didnt edit out nigga lips.
Ill stop buying their shit then, thanks for the info.
>Houseki no Kuni's official translations are pretty bad
why?
In my country is Ivrea so i dont know.
>muh Berserk
I’ll never get why people defend Dark Horse so much when their translation flip flopped between using English translations of SFX and the original Japanese, and they literally whited out the centers of their spreads
The Gundam Origin books localized by Vertical are also worth getting in my opinion.
Not a manga but this was absolutely worth it.
I have the third one ordered as well
It's a lot of personal autism about small changes but,
the main thing is they sidestep any potential confusion of controversy about the gems being genderless by refusing to ever give them pronouns.
This is dumb because it contradicts with the original (where they refer to themselves as male and use male honorifics), and also makes dialogue more clunky. The absolute worst bits imo are changing Bort calling Dia "nii-san" to "didi", and a one off line where someone says "everygem" like it's fucking MLP
