Reverse traps tend to be tomboyish, slender, insecure, easily embarrassed/flustered, and gap moe when their femininity comes out.
As for why they're rare... I dunno. I think reverse traps usually need a good reason for pretending to be male. While some traps do have reasons for existing, a lot of traps are just random messed up or perverted boys.

They're rare because no one actually goes whole hog with them. Bishounen looking reverse traps might, but there's an increasing number these days that have them start out crossdressing, secretly like being girly after all or have some trauma related to the crossdressing, amd then just wear girly clothes in the end. A reverse trap that stays as such is definitely rare, compared to otokonoko who generally stay crossdressing (hell even in girls' works, especially games in the mod 2010s on, there will be one or more dudes who crossdress and keep crossdressing).
Plus their niche is being filled out by Cool type girls. You still get all the princeliness or Garness expected from a reverse trap, but the cool type girls still look feminine, have massive tits, and still wear feminine clothes like the rest (or if a casy shot calls for all girls wearing a dress she'll still wear one). Otaku shows generally have one to be the designated "safe" hearthrob. I kind of want them to have other boyish personalities besides Princely or Stoic too, might be fun.
