You should watch the anime. Begining of OP manga is not that amazing, but Anime gives it more depth.
Overall Anime > Manga until timeskip. Because after that pacing is just unbearable

What were you expecting, villains with sad backstories to make you feel sorry for them? This isn't Naruto, most villains are assholes with little redeeming qualities as they should be in a pirate manga.

Good joke. The One Piece anime has always been an inferior product, even by the standards of a weekly anime. The only thing different in the beginning is that the pacing wasn't fucking atrocious like it is now, but everything else was always substandard.

Then drop it. For me, this arc can hardly be improved. Everything from Nami stealing the ship and leaving the crew to the climax and Arlong's defeat was exellently executed.

Carrots scene makes it clear that she is accepting the role once hearing its Pedro's will.
Yamato's last scene clearly indicates she's going there to join the crew.
I imagine the real translation will make this even more clear on Viz. This is why you shouldn't get too cocky with bootleg translations that come out first.
