Manga reader here. First episode I didn't like. Full of QUALITY and bad direction, especially during scenes with Reg and Gabu, sound effects were also disappointing. At least Vueko is still looking cute.

Majikaja being 3D I can deal with and even fits his body but Belafu being almost completely 3D was a fucking disappointment. Such a cool creepy design ruined. His eyes should have looked like empty voids instead of a prolapsed anus.

That's how anime production works, different shots are delegated to completely different people, and that depends on the episode director. They're clearly just making sure the important stuff is properly adapted, and leaving the more expository parts to newer staff. Faputa clearly is still getting the focus.
One thing I realised when watching this ep is why they chose this CG, for the Turbinid dragon there where multiple shots where the CG model was used as a base and 2D animation was drawn on top, like they did with the close up of the dragon opening the mouth. The reason for the lack of detail in the models is to make it easier to blend the two together, which I think we'll see when there'll be multiple dragons doing crazy stuff.
