I just finished watching Haibane Renmei. What the hell happened to anime? Hell, media in general? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy current anime and all that, but here I am watching this show that's 20 years old now and it has left so much of an impression on me. An impression modern anime hasn't achieved.
Haibane Renmei reminded me of why I got into anime in the first place. There was a feeling of intimacy between the world and its characters, questions left up to interpretation, and a story that had heart. Like, I said, I enjoy modern anime. Romantic comedies, action, slice-of-life, etc. It's fun to watch and it gives me a good laugh, but I'm not seeing anything as thoughtful as Haibane Renmei being released today.
Maybe it's just me that feels that way, but why is that?
there was a liberal take over in media...and as tolkien has indicated “Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin good forces have invented or made”

>Sonny Boy Kek.

Haibane Renmei was not a normal production for its time either. Or any time. It's an adaptation/continuation of a doujin that was only able to be produced because ABe had great relationships with some of the few people in the industry that would actually back a project like that.

Damn, so I guess it's just a rare instance of the right place at the right time. I hope something like that will happen again sometime in the future.
Just keep your eyes out for creators with a very idiosyncratic style and whose productions are always recognizable. The industry now isn't very kind to products that don't have a market but every once in a while things happen to align and you get a unique production.
I was gonna come say it didn't even sell well when it was released, but checking the chart it looks like it sold over 5000 on initial release and another 5000 on future releases, for over 10k total. Which, while not a runaway hit or anything, is a very respectable amount.

Why can't we enjoy both?

Anime like HR have never been the norm

This is going to be a very weird rec but if you want a short anime that has the same kind of feel as passion project/very much the vision of one person being presented Kemono Friends has been the only one I've checked out in the past couple years that brings back that feeling honestly. It's not Haibane Renmei level but it feels very intimate when it gets into its groove

Fuck you, faggot. You could have started a thread about Haibane Renmei and all the things you liked about the show. Instead you're just whining about modern anime like a little bitch. This is what's wrong with Any Forums: you'd rather complain about things you don't like than praise things you do like. Not that it's at all unique to here.

>you'd rather complain about things you don't like than praise things you do like Is this your first day on Any Forums?

why is this board pretending miyazaki statement doesnt apply to 99% of post 2010 shit what fucking liberal takeover lmao

The place mostly being shit forever doesn't make it any less shit. Besides, by this point in the season shitposters have given up on non-popular threads so most of them are full of people enjoying the shows.
