Spy x Family has a simple and endearing premise: a fake family slowly becoming a real family over time. It's heartwarming while showing the positives of family life. The father is cool and handsome, the mother beautiful and supportive, the child cute and hilarious.
Darling in the Franxx was very too busy being pretentious, pseudo intellectual garbage to bother with having an interesting premise. Most people only cared about Hiro and 02, but their relationship wasn't enough to carry the entire series. If you put those two in a high school setting and relegated the rest of the cast to tertiary recurring characters, nothing would change. You'd get diet-Nagatoro, which isn't a diss at Nagatoro as much as it emphasizes how much of Darling in the Franxx was just window dressing.
There's a good reason why it's all but forgotten.
