I would never make fun of shounentards (my own journey has been... "non-linear" to say the least...), but it's very important that people who watch shounen, have the mindset of "This is just the first rung of a very long ladder." I don't really appreciate recent shounentards lecturing me on how "I'm doing it wrong" and how most anime is "mid". Or worse, how it's all "tropes". The fault for this, usually falls on the video essay redditors and MyAnimeList reviewers, who present their "analysis" as "The One, True Way, and All Others Are Heathens that Will Burn In Hell." It's a great way to get the zoomers pumped up and engaged, but has... drawbacks, and can ruin communities.

It depends on the mindset that we take with us, to our first seasonal, and our eagerness to watch more and more anime. I feel that MAL usually filters for people who are not serious about enjoying anime, and just want to rate it and check it off of a list. My own "schooling" was when I saw Sonny Boy, as it was airing seasonally. It was exactly the kind of thing that popped up in droves, after the advent of Crunchyroll, to mine the spark of interest in anime, and folded, not too long, after. The show, itself, was no great shakes, but it taught me Discipline, and enforced a watching ethic that still pays dividends, to this day, months later.

Welcome to Hell, kid. The watching never stops.

Welcome to Heaven, kid. The watching never stops.

>profound
I haven’t heard that term in a while. I remember one of the most profound statements I’ve ever heard about anime. I was channel-surfing with a friend a number of years ago, and paused on Toonami airing the Kakashi mask episode. He was putting on a mask (yes, the round black mask on his face), and then right after that they aired the episode where he finally takes off his mask. My friend laughed and then she said ”Anime helps us to feel things.”

Where can I subscribe to your blog?

Just keep lurking Any Forums, I maintain a "personal brand," and a lot of that, has to do with always trying to remain positive, honest, reliable, and friendly, as much as with my anime acumen. I do blog, in sporadic bursts. I haven't written much, lately. I tend to write (both reviews and prose) about anime for myself, as opposed to any particular audience. I feel as if it is "worth" it, but I don't bother trying to have a high "social media" or MAL AniList score or friends or whatever. That takes way too much time and effort. I make it easy to find me.

>watching ethic
user please

Yeah... I kinda fell down, there. It's just that I tend to be watching anime all the time. But, in my defense, I really like what I do, and, not worrying about others pissing all over my favorite shows, makes it a joy.

I was agreeing with you until you complained about tropes, I dont expect the rest of the post to be any better

He complained about shounentards complaining about tropes.

At least you made some people mad, that's always a worthy endeavour.

The trope thing is a valid point, though. There are a significant number of people that would sneed at me for calling them out for this, in the first place, because, in their world, we should not be "using tropes", at all. It’s always fun to encounter that. And, like I said, it really only applies to anime. People never seem to say things are "just tropes" in any other media. People are always happy to judge anime based on a single screenshot or clip, such as insisting that it is "tropey garbage", and they are not always wrong in that something isn't the best, but I’ve been at this for a while and they usually have no idea what they're even talking about.

I agree with you then, I thought you were one of the people who hates tvtropes so much they pretend tropes dont exist

True. And what's more, anger is really a manifestation of fear. The reactions are quite similar, both designed to be temporary. Being in either a state of fear, or anger, for extended lengths of time, is corrosive to our health; both mental and physical. I hope those anons get better.

Thats nice and all but I will continue to watch what I enjoy its just japanese cartoons I watch them for entertainment.

Well, for me, you'll notice that I deliberately don't hide who I am. I watch what I enjoy too. As such, I won't post stuff like you just did. It's just uncouth and unprofessional. I consider this a professional environment. If you choose to look at anime as simply a personal entertainment medium, then knock yourself out. I'm a reformed shounentard; I used to be a right bastard. A great deal of my approach to anime, these days, is an act of atonement. In fact, a great deal of my personal philosophy is based upon becoming a much more cultured and knowledgeable anime watcher than I have been in the past. I'm every bit as cynical as the next user; more so, I'll bet. I regularly deal with some truly scary people, in my personal life. I doubt there's a thing that you could say that would shock me. It is quite possible for very good things like anime to exist in this world. I try to watch them all, myself. I know of many, many incredible works. The characters are my heroes, and my models. Please don't make the error of mistaking optimism, kindness, politeness, or sincerity for weakness or stupidity. It's my experience that this can lead to... costly mistakes.

Finally, a based thread.

Didn't read lol

Isn't anime most tropes?
>B-b-but western kino is all tropes, too!
Yeah, but it's much more presentable than anime. Even anime can see how they copy one another brutally. I have seen so many iterations of shinji than of the toyota corolla. Anime is 95% low art, made to push profits.

>most tropes
Mostly*

>soinny boy
did not read

You said a lot of things, but I don't really know what your point is. I feel like you didn't make any.

just like soi boy lol

This faggot thinks watching hundreds of hours of shows even he knows aren't very good is a virtue in itself because his whole identity is centered around being an otaku consumer.
He wants to be the otaku protagonist on a show that gives a big speech about the topic.
