counter argument:doing the opposite can work even better. To dramatise and romanticise, dialog and situations, you can create more interesting scenarios, like how Kaiji's universe and villains don't make sense the moment you try to make sense out of them, but you are fucking engage because the plot it's taking it's own idea seriously.
Smearing a lay of shit upon the first adaptation doesn't turn it into anime.

10/10 masterpiece and one of my all time favorites. Any Forums gets filtered hard on the art style though.
