as people have mentioned in the thread, the contrast between the quirky direction and the bland harem writing does come off as pseudointellectual or dishonest. the whole thing with every girl being written as more of a parody of otaku cliches than an actual character doesn't help either, and they come off as incredibly shallow.

So if it was shot like a normal show, you'd unironically think it'd be better? The jank camera work and visual are what make it unique, and part of the reason the latter seasons lose their charm is because Shinbo (the director for Bake and the Kizu movies) worked on them less
