Absolutely it is. Arjuna was shallow and pretentious and had it's head up it's own ass and took itself and it's concepts way too damn seriously. Escaflowne still stands to this day as the most expensive televised anime series ever and still, even in spite of it's flaws, one of the best. Incredible animation, beautiful painted backgrounds, the greatest soundtrack of televised anime ever, and I would recommend the Bandai dub, even though it can be corny in parts. Watching sub is fine too.

Imperial capital Vector = Imperial capital of Zaibach (they look EXACTLY the same)
Emperor Gestahl = Emperor Donkirk. Both are old men with long white beards and moustaches. They use science and magic to control the world.
Kefka = Dilandau. Both are insane generals of the empire.
General Leo = Folken. The other general in the empire that has more noble intentions.
Terra = Hitomi. "Main protagonist" female that has other-worldly origins and powers.
And lastly, Edgar = Allen Schezar.

No. Definitely not. The story isn't bad. It's just gets into esoteric concepts in the world building and geopolitical level plot later on that aren't that clearly explained. That said the character drama is more straightforward and that part isn't an issue. The movie is its own separate thing. It's fine to watch on its own merits but isn't an replacement for the TV series.

There was too much focus on all the geopolitics even though there wasn't enough time to develop it. We end up flying through it so the show ends up going at the speed of light.
Not enough time developing the end couple despite it being a romance.
That being said still very enjoyable.
