Their statement states that it was to comply with some non-English country's censorship requirements as they want the app to be available everywhere in the world outside of Japan.

Translated tanks aren't available for all of the manga, but maybe that's going to change. I've seen black and white tank versions of a page where the tank is color too

Fun fact about this app. Chapters are split into half of what they normally are. Why? Because you have to pay to read chapters. Let me explain You can read chapters by spending currency. There are 3 forms of currency, UP points which are restored every day at 6:00 PM(JST), EXP which are gained as a bonus for buying coins, and coins which are used to read chapters and are bought in shop. Prices for chapters aren't even consistent. One chapter of Sono Bisque could be free, then it could be 30 coins, then it could be 60 coins because it's an "advance" chapter. It seems the advance chapters are the chapters that have been recently released and those cost 60 coins, double the normal price. But some series like Soul Eater, Akame ga Kill, Full Metal Alchemist all chapters are "advance" chapters meaning they all cost 60 coins(remember chapters are broken into 2 so it's 120 coins to read 1 chapter)so I don't fucking know. Also btw chapters expire after 3 days so you have to buy them again.

The main reason chapters get split is because that way a series that's normally monthly can be released semi-monthly.
A ton of manga websites and apps operate on those principles.

That is a kind of weird statement, it starts with "this was unavoidable", but then proceeds to "We are seeing how we can improve it, though while we do so series are uncensored elsewhere, please be patient". I have to think their great idea of one platform worldwide isn't getting the launch numbers they want for them to have make that statement.

It has nothing to do with the splits you see on some current series releases, as series like Soul Eater and FMA never had their chapters during their publication.

So if I want to read a volume of Full Metal Alchemist it would cost 480 coins. 4 chapters split into 2 so 8 chapters in total costing 60 coins each. So basically they're charging you 5 bucks per volume. And they expire. What.

Another point is to have a consistent chapter length. They could also just double the prices of each chapter instead of splitting them in half.
FMA and Soul Eater are still monthly series even when they are long finished.
