It's kinda funny how people always mention Usagi. Yes she matured a lot, but she was a middle class 14 year old, she had no reason to be mature at the start.

And she had friends and ked a normal life. While at least three if not all four if the sailor scouts were friendless for one reason or another until Usagi and through her the others cane along

Probably Rei. It's not that any of the characters change too much really but it just always felt like a lot of the inners were pretty routine in their shtick while Rei always had more to work with either by her relationship and chemistry with Usagi or just with her own supporting cast via her granpa and Yuichiro. Heck one of the best episodes in S1 was when Usagi actually realized that her being in love with Mamoru was hurting Rei and actually cared about it and they actually talked about it. Like friends. It showed that Usagi actually cared about the people in her life beyond winning the cock and actually gave Rei closure and let her move on from wanting the same cock. It was just a nice moment. You'd be shocked by how many actual romance shows won't even give the losing parties any closure. As for the other girls, they get their moments, but there's only so many AMI IS SMART and JUPITER IS TALL episodes you can go through before they all kind of bleed together. Venus is usually good for a laugh. But yeah in terms of actual character, Rei wins. Hands down.

S1 was really good for the down to earth relationships, and it's a pity later seasons basically wiped out all the interesting side characters like usagis normal friends, the ficus on her family, the guy from the temple in love with Rei etc

Yeah. S1 was easily the best.

I think they’re still present in R somewhat

R and S, and a little bit of SuperS.

I know people are quick to chastise "filler" but I actually did like the Treetard arc. It still had some of that comfy SOL S1 goodness and didn't start bloating its cast to focus on a single plot device character over another. Then Chibi showed up and it was FINE but then in the next season I just kept getting frustrated the more they tried to force the Outers into EVERY FUCKING EPISODE like they were suddenly everyone's best friend. And don't even get me started on the fucking Starlights.

In other shows sure. In Sailor Moon, the filler is some of the best stuff, because it gives the characters room to develop and interact in ways that the manga mostly just glossed over to put more focus on Usagi.
