I just finished it, and I'm surprised that people were so vitriolic about it. This is pretty much a standard ending. Some things were rushed and required more development, in general, the quality after the time skip probably dropped, but that's mostly noticeable because of the exceptionally high standards that were set before. In any case, it's hard to imagine how else could it have been done, if the whole post-world-outside-the-wall-reveal were to be handled more slowly then people would just complain that it's dragging on anyway. The story has changed its character completely but that's the core of it so essentially if you think that's bad then the entirety of it is bad. In the end, some choices were controversial but as to how the entire character arcs were somehow ruined by the ending I fail to see. Enlighten me.
Why are people so mad about the ending?

Any Forums wanted Eren to win and thought his friends were retards for trying to stop him. So they also hated that his plan was to lose all along to an implausible teamup, and that the extended epilogue showed Paradis being razed in a few generations anyway.

Excellent pacing for example. Very rarely do other manga/anime manage to maintain such a high tempo of action without extended breaks, there are some breaks in SnK as well but these are basically kept to a minimum necessary to develop the story and characters, there's no bullshit and boring moralizing or the endless repetition of the same retrospection. SnK is a new standard in shonen and new mangas will be measured against it in that regard. Another thing was a very good management of information leaks pre-time-skip.

The ending is meaningless and exceptionally nihilistic, in the end even though they loose Eren and Floch were right, there was no good issue, the Avengers were obviously wrong.
The Mangaka basically just justified genocide but made it even more idiotic that it needed to be.

worst part is that the finale is retroactively nihilist since it's shown that paradi gets destroyed in an extra chapter and not in the official ending, I would have respected isayama if he stuck with his original shitty idea instead of doing damage control after the initial backlash, trying to accomodate every kind of fan. The pacing was glacial during post marley though and little we had to care about if the focus wasn't on Zeke or eren. Also, tons of dumbed down characters so that the author could start his little rumbling fantasy that is the real life equivalent of a school shooting.
