>Oda mentions he felt old Jump manga didn't feature enough female characters or strong female characters, so he always tried to include female characters in his stories. He likes to draw strong and capable women, citing Nami as an example.
Is Oda right? Is Nami a good example of strong and capable woman?

She's not powerlevel strong, but sure; she's pretty capable at her task.

>Nami
>woman

Oda is wrong on both accounts.

If by good and strong you mean "has suckable titties" then yes

Kek

His design of her was different when he planned the story. Most likely is the work of editors that sex appeal became more of an object after the time skip. Editors forced him to change Black Maria's design to make her more sexy, to cite a recent example.

Both Nami and Robin fit that type of character

>Her slaps hurt Luffy like Garps who is canonically as strong as Roger
>Is the ship's navigator, accountant and prodigy at surfing in Sky islands
>Beat a CP9 agent
>Law thought she was the only reliable person on the Starwhat crew
>She stole Big Meme's soul cloud
>She strings Sanji's crush along and is not the MC's baited love interested who will be cucked by the recurring secondary female

user, Oda is one of the most horny mangaka ever...
Sex appeal becoming more present after the TS probably is 99% on him, kek.

Axe hand Nami

I wanted it to be canon

One Piece only has 2 strong female characters that can actually compete with the men.

Boa Handcock and a fat disgusting cannibal.

>Handcock
Kek and don't forget about Yamato too.

Mashima did a much better job.

It's honestly funny seeing Lucy overcome Nami in terms of character and strength through the years when she was always called a bootleg Nami.

Nami might not be physically-imposing, but she's one of the best female characters in manga history. She's incredibly human. When the boys tried to peep on her in Alabasta, she didn't go "KYAAAA RUFFY-KUN HENTAI" or whatever, instead, she demanded them to cough up for the show. That doesn't mean she can't get embarrassed, she just acts like an adult. And like Usopp and Chopper, she acknowledges her physical weakness and acts on her strengths instead. Her relationship with Luffy is also fascinating, she's shown to be his biggest cheerleader despite also critiquing him more than other strawhats.
A character like Nami is a rare sight, especially in battle shonen, where female characters exist for the show and maybe a romantic subplot. The same can be said about Robin.

Maybe Pre-TS. Then he turned her and Robin into harlots.

>"KYAAAA RUFFY-KUN HENTAI"
Doesn't Nami have this same exact reaction in Wano when they tried to peep on her

Yes, and every other time as well. That Alabasta gag is wildly OOC. Wonder if that was an editor's influence.

>Wonder if that was an editor's influence
Doubt it

Would the industry be better if Editors were gassed en mass?

No. She had a wardrobe malfunction in the bathhouse, but that's about it.
And again, it's not like Nami doesn't get embarrassed. You can recall how Absalom was molesting her in Thriller Bark. For Nami, it's about being in control of her body. She doesn't mind using her sexuality, but she wouldn't allow her sexuality to be used.

>wardrobe malfunction
Huh I thought Hawkins removed her clothes there
Weird

It was an accident.

Might just be my bad memory then

user, reread the series starting from TB. She's a huge sperg about that kind of thing. Brook's panty gag was basically made to cement her as the pervert basher.
No, you were right. Hawkins' sword knocked it off.

>No, you were right. Hawkins' sword knocked it off.
Thx user, I was wondering if that was really an accident or not

>Brook's panty gag was basically made to cement her as the pervert basher.
Everyone bashes Brook for his perverted comments, that's part of the gag. The point is, Nami and Robin, don't act like children in the presence of others. Of course they're going to react negatively to literal sexual harassment, but as long as they're in control of the situation, it's fine.
>Hawkins' sword knocked it off.
He didn't strip her on purpose, her towel just slipped off.

I'm getting mixed signals here kek
Was the towel slip accidental or not
I think there's a pretty big difference if it was an accident

Mate, you're basing your entire analysis of her character off of an ancient gag that even Luffy and Chopper were in on. She really is part of the anti-pervert archetype. And his sword did knock it off, but it was an accident. You can even check the panel or the anime scene to see it.
