Rudeus from Mushoku Tensei. He has his flaws as a character but he's more well balanced than most protagonists in anime on the whole and is actually quite funny at times. Moreover his romances actually go somewhere. I'm talking about the light novel of course, the anime butchered his character.

To begin with, it cut a ton of monologue that added nuance to his character, which I can forgive since it's impossible to fully adapt all material and it's a problem every book adaptation faces. More egregious is that they for some reason decided to overplay his goofiness, like the scene where he licks the panties of the bikiarmor chick, which in combination with his bland character resulting from the lack of nuance just makes him annoying.
I can understand why animeonlies dislike him, I did too until I read the novels.
