Not anime but that gif reminded me of the avatar episode in the spirit world with the creature that steals your face, and that creeped me out when I was younger
Remember zenki scaring me as a kid on top of some other random ovas
The old lady who could blood bend creeped me out more as a kid
I can't quite remember the name of the show, but there was one scene I remember that creeped me out for some reason.
>Woman running past a brick or metal fence with a baby carriage
>Tall dude(?) in a black coat and a hat obscuring his face
>As the woman passes the tall guy, her head just randomly falls off and into the baby carriage
I literally don't remember anything else, but man that was creepy as a kid. I remember playing N64 games, then turning off the console to watch anime that aired on some random channel I had via satellite, and watching whatever this was.
Arc The Lad. The chimeras and the female childhood friend floating in the tank scared the shit out of my 7 YO me. I watched that shit on toonami. Good times.
I remember the pig people scene in spirited away scared the living shit out of me when i was like 8
> ima spit in yo face
Watching this scene as a kid felt like walking in a crowded place holding my mums hand, only to realize that I wasn't holding her hand but that of a stranger. Its that kind of scare that this movie gave me. Looking back at how strongly it made me feel, I wish I could watch something that could give me these kind of strong emotions again.
Moomins.
Why did they have to include this in a kids' show? Just why?
Post your country's version of The Groke!

That one scene from Digimon Tamers with Jeri and D-Reaper, actually that whole arc was kinda fucked up for a kids show.

The Yoma OAVs were super scary to me when I was younger. They were played on this french cable channel that was only playing anime end of 90's/early 2000.
The atmosphere is just SO much, so dark, so weird, so full of despair...Well, especially the first OAV that happens in a small village lost in the mountains. Everything just appears kinda fine at the beginning but then something is just off and feels wrong.
Then of course GIANT DISGUSTING MAN EATING SPIDERS
I couldn't see uncooked ground beef the same after Mononoke Hime
Toonami aired Arc the Lad? Man, why does nobody ever talk about it then? Even Pilot Candidate is mentioned more often, just for being terrible.
here in brazil in the late 90's a certain broadcaster thought it would be a good idea to show hentai in broad daylight. Urotsukidoji or "the legend of the devil" as he was known around here, had rape, tentacles, gore and managed to traumatize a crowd at the time
i saw that in a (non-anime) convention video room when i was like 10. good times.
That scene in Spirited Away when the parents turned into pigs gave me nightmares.
Imagine how visceral the vore scenes in Attack on Titan would be if it was made in the late 80's.
With what we have, they've always had to pan the camera away at the last second.
By the time I started watching anime I had already seen Alien, Predator, played Doom, Postal and Diablo 2 by the time I was 10.
The first nipponese thing that got to me at all was Berserk and that was the manga, not the anime. The detail that Miura put into the gore was intense.
