What do I do after that?

You go to college and take four years of it and then maybe you'll be half fluent.

First follow the DJT guide tatsumoto.neocities.org
If you have any further questions, ask them.

If you're a big black dude who was brought to Japan as a slave by the Jesuits you can learn Japanese by being Oda Nobunaga's retainer.

They're not horrid. It turns out languages and culture are complex and messy things and if you think just being able to recitate syllables equals learning a language then you are a fucking idiot.

By actually going to Japan. Don't listen to anybody telling you that "you don't have to go to Japan to reach fluency." Of course, take at least a year or two to learn basic Japanese before going.

that's how /jp/ learns it

I'm inclined to learn by audio and loathe gamification methods designed for the current ADHD era where everyone needs constant dopamine hits from like buttons and point gathering, so after watching anime for a decade I learned both kana, looked at an English translation of a sentence, and realized I knew how to pronounce all kanji already. Kanji have been a breeze to learn since then.
The negatives are the I've never written a moonrune and don't know the stroke order, so my handwriting would probably range from illegible to excruciating to understand, but luckily this isn't a necessity in modern society.

classes,books,studying

Stop using translations and put in the effort to understand the media you enjoy. It'll be painfully slow for a long time, and you will suck for years, which is why most people give up.
Classes, textbooks, tutoring, etc., are all secondary and up to you. No one knows what the best thing to do is, they only pretend they do. You'll probably end up in the same place either way.

ok

you can't learn Japanese
