i find it obscene how obscure this has remained over the years..
Gankutsuou: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo
It isn't obscure, you newfag, just forgotten.
it doesn't seem to me that it ever got the appreciation it deserved
feelsy night, feel the need to say something about it
every facet and frame of this production is a work of art, every word of dialogue spoken a beautiful poem
fine, fine art
Why did they make him some weird alien with a demon
Best adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo made to date.
if it was supposed to be a literal transcription into an animated series, it would have been just that
the original work is wonderful, and the adaptation and alterations were carefully made. there is not a single thoughtless detail throughout
>revenge bad!
>le space demon made him evil!
Space demon didn't make him bad, it just gave him the power to execute his revenge at a cost. It's the equivalent to the treasure in the original story, except that didn't have a downside attached to it.
i never found Gankutsuou to be an evil being, it only subsists on symbiosis, and Dantés' motives were righteous and justified. wrongs were made right, and in the end, the world was a better place for it. Gankutsuou did not protest the fate of its host, or even its own fate. it was just the way of things.
it's shonenshit anyway
I'd say second best, the french miniseries was the best. Personally I don't like that the anime didn't have Faria, probably one of the most important people in his entire story
>drama written in the late 1800s is shounenshit
what on earth
i was talking about the anime...it has nothing to to with the original drama, even the ending is happy
Bump
He's right, the nip adaptation is trash. Nips in most cases ruin literature classics
I will now watch your anime based in a classic book.
It was easy reading with chapters published weekly in newspapers and magazines. Closest thing to XIX century shonenshit.
>ESL
I was really expecting a mature anime and then that episode happens...
>tourist
There are so many adaptations of Monte Cristo, this one is the simplified version for weebs who are too lazy to read books.
They made sure to keep them focused by using a bonkers visual style.
>every facet and frame of this production is a work of art
generally I agree but lets not forget the cgi mechs
