what's the longest an anime sat in your backlog?
I've been putting up watching Redline since 2014, only got around seeing it today

most of them really, I have a problem where I watch one or two shows a year and obsess over them, which isn't really a "problem" but I can never force myself to start a new series.
Your example is funny because I put Redline off forever until a few months ago, and I thought it was pretty good

Damn is it really THAT long?

I meant off

understandable. redline looks good but the story isn't all that interesting. better that you put it off instead of being overhyped and thinking 'that's it?' once it's over.

I had been interested in watching Macross since like 2003 but only got around to watching it in 2017. Similar for Gundam, though probably 2018 for that. I don't know why I never bothered torrenting more anime after I learned how to. I'm sure I could have in the mid 00s.

I had GaoGaiGar in my backlog for close to a decade, ever since I heard the main theme on somebody's myspace page. Then there was one of those ms paint hype graphs that got posted a lot that really got me interested. Something similar to this one from Toriko

had lotgh in my backlog since 2009 and have only made it through the first season last year

there's barely any hype around it, and I didn't really think 'that's it' after finishing it.
it was pretty great, the story was fairly simple but I'm not much of a plotfag so I mostly rate the things I watch by visuals and soundtrack, it's certainly one of the best looking anime films I've seen.

Who the fuck watches Redline for the story?

the point I'm trying to convey is that when redline came out there was a ton of hype because it kept getting marketed as a masterpiece that took 7 years to make. that's why watching it on backlog is better now when you aren't affected by that hype.

Even watching it back then wouldn't change much, it certainly does look like something that took 7 years to make.
Unless you're some massive contrarian who just hates on current popular things of the day I don't see how you'd hate it if you've seen it back in 09

I saw episode 1 back when it came out in 2006, told myself I'd let the episodes pile up and then marathon the whole thing once it's over.
It has now been 16 years and I have yet to watch Ergo Proxy

the average hardcore Any Forumstard who saw redline back in the day would be comparing it to god tier classics like ghibli stuff, old madhouse and akira which of course it falls short in comparison to cause digital is always inferior. redline is only praised today cause shit has gotten so bad that it seems like a masterwork in a sea of garbage.

>cause digital is always inferior
You certainly have a talent for presenting your opinions as fact, especially considering how good looking early 2000s digital animation was.
people giving digital animation shit is due to the sea of garbage you speak of that came in the late 2000s and then 2010s, otherwise digital animation in its early days was seen as filled with potential.
And why shouldn't Any Forumsnons think Redline is better than Akira, old madhouse or Ghibli classics? I don't but if that's their opinion then so be it, it's not that much of an outrageous claim compared to saying some isekai from last season is better than Ghibli stuff.
Redline certainly stands its ground visually speaking.
It just sound like you're very upset about people having opinions you disagree with.

I still haven't watched Death Note

Evangelion
Almost 15 years at this point.

Galaxy Express 999, the sheer amount of episodes discourages me.

>how good looking early 2000s digital animation was
>digital animation in its early days was seen as filled with potential
it never looked good. those digital animated shows that came out at the tail end of the 90s were putrid like doremi, one piece and select scenes and episodes from bebop like pierrot le fou which looks way worse than the rest of the show.

Cowboy Bebop
Been watching the occasional episode for ten years now, still haven't finished.

Weirder yet, I binged through all of Samurai Champloo in about one day.

Samurai Champloo, Gankutsuou and Baccano all have been put on my to-watch list before 2009, and they're still there. Maybe one day...

The second half of Gurren Lagann.
I watched it with Any Forums back when it was airing, got to when Kamina died, planned on going back to it and never did.

GiTS (1995 movie), Spirited away and wolf's rain were digital and looked great, one piece was obviously an average budget long running shonen, and Bebop never looked good regardless of which episode we're talking about.
