He was a doctor by profession and it shows in his works. Of course he used a lot of fantasy and creative licenses but the medical terminology is there.

he's a genuine genius of manga and without a doubt in my mind the best manga-ka of all time. his period in the 60s and 70s of doing adult oriented suspense and dramas is unmatched.
Tetsuwan Atom and Belladonna of Sadness are the only anime of his that I think are truly masterpieces/classics. Blackjack and Dororo are good too but he had a lot less luck in the animated world.
