Why is it so rare for protagonists in anime & manga to be gaijin?
Why is it so rare for protagonists in anime & manga to be gaijin?
It's funny because Goku, Luffy and Jonathan are all foreigners or aliens.
>Why is it so rare for protagonists in anime & manga to be gaijin?
Because obviously writers want to pander to their countrymen.
Luffy isn't a foreigner if it's not even on earth
When writers write something it's usually from their own perspective, this usually ends with things being based in Japan because they wouldn't make sense elsewhere and they'd have to do lots of research before writing
I really hate the "half-japanese" trope
>is supposed to be the most important and influential protagonist of the entire series
>dies after practically no time at all
I still don't get this. I feel like Araki did him dirty for all the buildup with Hamon they gave him.
Its funny how the best anime/manga aren't exclusively centered around Japan either
They'll start getting more popular. The protagonist of the most popular show last season is an American agent infiltrating the Soviets.
And eating Omurice, but w/e
How can Jonathan be a foreigner if he's a natural citizen to Britain?
People want the hero to belong to their nation. It's childish, but that's how it works. it's not a rule written in stone and there are noble exceptions, but that's how most think.
Why is it so rare for protagonists in Western media to be Japanese?
Most protags nowadays aren't even ethnically "western" either
>I still don't get this.
Probably because Araki wanted to break cliches so to speak. I've rarely seen an anime/manga story with a multi generation setup the way JoJo has.
Same thing with Goku.
>isekai protagonist makes japanese food
>an American agent infiltrating the Soviets.
Pretty sure Loid's more a European equivalent. The country he's from is next door neighbors with Ostania if memory serves right which is why it's so easy for both sides to shoot the shit with each other.
Maybe geographically, but if the two major powers are Westalis and Ostania and he's a Westalis agent, then the parallel is to an American agent.
I don't mind mangaka setting their series or protagonists in Japan but it's cringe when they set their story in a medieval setting and then fill it with Japanese elements regardless. That's just lazy writing.
He's German. Ostania and Westania are an allegory of West Germany and East Germany from 1949
It's better when they're not. The Japanese seem to be incapable of properly researching the countries or mythologies they borrow from.
idk some of the fate servants are pretty okay.
>lancelot
>siegfried
that's about it
Because isekai isn't about writing a unique or creative story, it's about wanting all the good parts of modern Japan (the food, the politeness, etc.) without any of the bad parts (killer work hours, cute girls don't fuck you, etc.)
>if the two major powers are Westalis and Ostania
They're not. They're just two countries with bad blood between them.

He's German retard
A lot of the male servants are pretty ok but there's almost no female servants that can even reach decent
