YWNBAW

What anime is this?

Shinkai literally copied this scene in Weathering with You

>shinkai
I mean, he has been making the same movie over and over again.

I understood this scene when I was an eight-year-old boy.

Makes sense, women are basically children.

This entire movie. I don't understand a single thing about the main character and her woes, outside of CITY BAD.

City is bad though.

Massive cities that constantly expand and absorb smaller towns around them is bad, normal provincial cities are comfy.

Why do women think this?

Wew, color fucking surprise me.

You will never understand it.

spectrally stolen

I guarantee OP is male

Because you're robbing both of you of what should be an event to remember both while it's happening and the follow up from it.
By doing it remotely you're displaying that you're a coward that fears rejection, which might mean you've experienced it already, meaning in turn that others have already identified you as a low-value male, saving the latest woman in line from having to make that judgement herself.
Additionally, even if it's not rejection you fear, there might be other elements, like not knowing how to follow-up in the event of a "Yes" (making you passive and/or unexperienced and thus less desirable), or lacking enough investment in the relationship to care about any of the above (making rejecting you the safest option to avoid being strung along and abused).

In short, every possible interpretation and possibility for the event "he won't confess in person" leads to very good and probable reasons for lowering your worth as a partner, and making rejecting you a good idea.

I think they just notice that it's a trend
