Sorry mate, White Album 2's anime literally bettered the VN.

As a massive WA2 fag, I definitely appreciate the adaptation, which was very well done. But I wouldn't say it surpasses IC of the VN per se, as it obviously misses a lot of the monologue and details.

To get the full experience I still recommend reading the VN, although the adaption is very much a viable alternative, which is indeed rare as far as adaptations go.

This anime pretty much broke me. It's not juvenile like Clannad or whatever.

This is EXACTLY what makes the anime better.

The part where Haruki confronts Touma on the streets in the VN is dragged out with overly-long, monotonous internal monologue. In the anime it's paced perfectly, and you can really feel the rush of emotion.

Guess what? Even this is not true.
The anime includes Touma's backstory over the past year and provides some much needed context for her perspective. This was adapted directly from the Drama CD and wasn't in the VN.

This is the first clear cut case of a VN anime adaptation comprehensively surpassing the VN.

While I like the anime, it's not really better than the full experience of the VN. Discovering what really happened in IC as it happens rather than in Coda works for the anime as a one-off medium, but the experience in Coda is way better.

It's a pretty self contained story so the anime did a pretty good job should I say, by adapting only the best part of the VN.
