Anime
After Enchousen there's a nosedive in production quality and after the Shogun Assassination arc the manga and the anime goes to shit.
>After Enchousen there's a nosedive in production quality
any idea why? Sunrise is usually great with their production.
>the manga and the anime goes to shit.
I heard silver soul arc is cool and honestly ive been looking forward to gintama going full shonen
>any idea why? Sunrise is usually great with their production.
They split Sunrise into Sunrise and BNP there, and several staff members of the anime (like director) change at that point. The adapted stuff just loses a lot of flair.
The new staff actually experiments a bit with their first serious arc (like the backgrounds and such are pretty different, even if not exactly "good", and they try some unique effects for some dramatic scenes), but it never happens again.
>I heard silver soul arc is cool and honestly ive been looking forward to gintama going full shonen
The main issue with that, especially in the anime side, is that you won't get the usual animation bump serious arcs got before when they need to constantly pump up action focused episodes.
Manga is always better than the anime.
The anime has some great adaptations but it lost 80% of its soul by 2015 and 100% of its soul by 2017.
As people have said the voice acting is great. Great for a second go at Gintama, that is.
Stick with the manga 100%
All of this only applies if you can read Japanese though. The English translation is literal fanfiction garbage for 300 chapters and then becomes a 7.5/10 tier translation for the rest with HWMN who I'm 90% sure are spics or indians who are ESL.
If you're EOP, just watch the anime
>is that you won't get the usual animation bump serious arcs got before when they need to constantly pump up action focused episodes.
damn that really sucks, there's no well animated fights in SS arc?
NTA but it's a HUGE disappointment. The fighting animation in Gintama peaked around episodes 100-200 IIRC. The manga's amazing choreography carried 300-320 or so but at that point even fucking normalfags started to realize that the animation was fucking things up.
And normalfags will fucking defend MAPPA so you know it got bad
also don't click on this image if you're new. there are spoilers in it
*after that point
so would you say the best fight of the series ends up being gintoki vs jirocho?
also does the final film make up for the animation decline at all atleast?
What episode are you on rn? So I know what not to spoil.
If we're talking animation quality, the Red Spider arc's fight was amazing iirc, one of my top picks when looking back. In terms of direction, Mitsuba arc has one of the best when it comes to the character-centric scenes. So much goes into a proper anime adaptation that just "is the fight good" doesn't say everything.
But holistically speaking no, that's not the best fight imo
The final film gave me different emotions than the manga but you can't go wrong with it. I think it's a good idea for an adaptation to try to be a bit unique since it will never be the same as the original anyway, and they tried some cool things. The animation was great again, but mostly 3d rotoscoped. still looked great though
>So much goes into a proper anime adaptation that just "is the fight good" doesn't say everything.
Im aware, but Im still hoping that there's a pay off in the end with Gin and Takasugi getting some sakuga put into their fight. I just got to the courtesan of a nation arc btw.
The anime up to enchousen was miles better than the manga though.
I completely disagree. If you want to bring up specifics I might be happy to discuss further
going to be a bit autistic here, why do you think they have a big fight in the future? did someone tell you that?
the animation for the most of the big moments are decent. don't worry about being an anime only
>going to be a bit autistic here, why do you think they have a big fight in the future? did someone tell you that?
just because he seems like the main antagonist of the series thus far
The voice acting, music, comedic timing, and animation really elevate the Gintama anime over the manga.
ah okay hope you enjoy
> he doesn't have voice acting, music, comedic timing, and animation in his head at all times while reading manga
my timing and voice acting is 5x better than the anime except for the best episodes when it's only better by 2x
Manga
Source material will always be better
Anime is better considering most people here don't speak Japanese. Comedy manga is really bad in translated form
based, where are you people coming from, i've never seen other mangachads in gintama threads
this is also true from a realistic standard point though. the worst example is Viz, their gintama translation absolutely butchered it. Although trying to localize jokes isn't a TERRIBLE idea by default, it was still terrible
>I completely disagree. If you want to bring up specifics I might be happy to discuss further
Not that user, but for example the Jackie Chan and Dragonball parody stories are easily improved by the extra scenes of the anime. The extra stuff generally flowed well and just added to the original manga content. To the point that the manga originals just feel like they're missing content in comparison. There were a couple of misses (like the game show scenes in the Takatin/Otsu Fan Club Battle arc), but generally the addition just improved on the originals.
yep, you need to read a fan translation of the manga and even then its going to be super autistic with more explanations than comedy, i really like the art and enjoy reading a lot more than watching anime but the official translations that get ripped online fucking suck
There were some really good fansubs for the anime, but now you can only find shitty crunchyroll subs that took out a majority of the jokes. Read the manga.
