It's an anti-war story, which is fine, but the execution is terrible. There are objectively "good" and "bad" characters according to the writers. The "good" characters, like the MC, or the fat bitch, don't want anything to do with violence, even when they really should look into how to defend themselves. For instance, the MC refuses to give intel that'd help the village dudes to kill Hamdo, even though it'd save their lives, because "killing bad". The "bad" characters are proven right so many times that it's not even funny.

And guess how the story ends, how everyone is saved? Violence. Lots of violence. The McGuffin girl ends up drowning and murdering thousands of soldiers. However, the writers don't want you to think about it like that. They want you to think it doesn't "count", and that there's a good anti-war/pro-peace message here, even though the real message was "defeat your enemies if you wish to live".

Also the rape baby subplot. Keep in mind that i'm a pro-lifer, and yet it's just done so wrong. Sara staying in the hellish future to take care of the rape baby is the final insult (right after the fat bitch guilt trips her into not aborting it). She's got a family and a life, and her parents are probably depressed about what happened to her. But for the sake of MUH KINO ENDING or something, idk, Sara stops being a realistic character and stays there, something nobody would ever do.

Tldr: if you want to make an antiwar story, don't make the message "just forget about the people that are about to kill you and your family bro :) we've got a picnic right now :)".

Both Shu and Sis are willing to resort to violence. Shu attacks soldiers on multiple occasions, although he never kills anyone. When the villager tries to kidnap Lala Sis threatens to kill him with a gun, so obviously she understands that pacifism isn't always a valid ideology. Furthermore Sara beats a rapist to death in self-defense.

While I understand what you are saying about Shu and Sis opposing the assassination attempt I think it has less to do with pacifism and more to do with pragmatism. The odds of the assassins succeeding are slim and the odds of Hellywood retaliating are very high, and furthermore the assassins trying to kill Hamdo is exactly what causes him to attack their village.

I'd be ok with it if they put it this way, but instead what I got was "we're going on a picnic" and "war bad! this is wrong!". I'm sadly not even exaggerating here, remember one episode before Hamdo invades the village, when the "bad guys" try to use Lala as a weapon or something to negotiate for their lives, and Sis' only answer is "we're going on a picnic, fuck you"? 3 episodes later, Lala is used as a weapon for the good guys and it's a good thing (well she does it willingly, but why would she refuse to do so BEFORE everyone gets killed? Wouldn't that be better?)

The reason Lala didn't kill Hamdo is because she hated humans and considered them all to be evil. As far as she was concerned humanity didn't deserve her help. At the end of the series Shu and Sis are what convince her that humanity isn't all bad. You're correct that Lala could have solved the entire plot from the start but that's the point.

My point is that they might've been able to convince her to help them out before they got mass murdered. She could clearly see they were good guys, and after that she could see they were good guys except half of them were dead.

Way to miss the story because of your hangups. Those retards want to do the exact failed plot that the last group did that already got Hellywood on their asses, and that was before getting enough water to reactivate the fortress. Sis doesn't mind using violence at all, she just doesn't think that it should be used in grudges and vengeance that would get them all killed. And guess what happened when they used violence for grudges and vengeance in the end?

This is the worst recurring argument that ever comes up. Sis, the doctor and even Shu wished to leave that decision to Sara as it was hers to make. Shu wished to stop her suicide attempt during the cave scene. By the time Sara and Sis talked in prison, the one doctor that could perform the abortion was dead because of your "totally right bad characters", and they were in fucking prison. Sis simply told Sara not to hate the baby for what it didn't do, as all that would do is not only hurt both of them, but also continue the cycle of hate that ruined their lives and planet in the first place.

She also developed a family and life there too. And if you somehow missed the symbolism of her hair cutting scene, she had given up on returning back home long before that. Her previous life was dead due to what happened to her in Hellywood. She'll start a new life with the survivors of the flood. Sorry she didn't do what you wanted her to.

It almost succeeded. The only reason it didn't was because Hamdo got very lucky when they confronted him. If they didn't get close to him, you'd have a point, but they did.

By the way, the answer is simple: because otherwise the characters would've been seen as "lesser pacifists" because they actually did something, and hack writers don't want that. Hack writers want characters to do nothing except say "peace and picnics = good", and get rewarded for it. So they'll get saved eventually at some point, through no action of their own, their pacifism preserved thanks to hack writing taking care of what THEY should be doing

Hamdo isn't exactly an IRL dictator, he's basically a cartoon villain. And the story ends with killing him (and a few of his soldiers too, but mostly him).

Not necessarily saying there can't be nutjobs on the same level as Hamdo IRL, but real life and politics are more complex than what's happening in this anime. Killing Hamdo ended up being enough. Besides, the reasons given to not kill Hamdo weren't "another one will follow" or "you'll fail", but "violence bad".
