I thought it's overrated. You could do so much more with this concept instead of doing a shitty romance

It's neither overrated or underrated. Ironically though, it's one of the few romance story that I liked.

Doesn't it have a super high rating on Mangadex? Like 9.30+ Definitely overrated IMO
I didn't like the romance. I kinda groaned internally when he got the cute observer girl and things got romantic.
From stuff I've read about it I expected something a little deep. It wasn't too dumb or shallow either, but man, the stuff you could do with this concept can be so much more cool...

You know actually never mind. It manages to give you top feels in only 16 chapters, that deserves praise
Still I'd love to see a store that buys your lifetime concept in a serious seinen that's not as romantically focused

>when Any Forums knew the origin of this manga is from futaba's greentext

It was very bad, up there with that manga about some dude on death row (picrel) and that one about muh pancreas
I hate these melodramatic shitty stories so much, it feels dishonest and pretty forced

It's genuinely bad. Says a lot about zoomer intelligence when you see its high rating.

Ratings are a meme user, since few years now, retarded zoomers have started spamming 10s at every decent story ever. Now it's more used as to gauge the popularity of the work in the community.

Kek you mean としあき had achieved more than Any Forumsnon just for >greentexting

now that you mention it there's something very cheesy about that line up.
I guess this sub genre of tragedy porn manga where it just keeps building up to some death ending we all already know will happen just comes off as shallow.

It's all shitty melodramatic crybaits that emotionless people praise as masterpiece because of death and misery. Like Plastic memory, Grave of Fireflies, Silent voice and though I haven't seen it I'm willing to bet anything that Violet Ever Garden is like that too, mediocre shows that force sadness on people with no taste.

Yeah. It's often south east Asian twitter trends that bump up a series to a really high rating despite it not being deserving.
That's the case with a lot of manhwas.
And shit like that Croc that dies or Bugcat Kapoo.

I don't understand why shows like Grave of the Fireflies, AnoHana, Pancreas, VEG, Maquia, 5cm/s and 10k yen over here are hated just because they "force sadness and melodrama onto the viewer." One, it's not like there's just death and tears all the time. That would be a bad show, like Blood-C with its gore and violence. There's a fair bit of positivity in these shows but you can't expect late night Japanese comedy here.

Besides, most of the people who hate these shows for this reason start watching it already aware of the overall tone they're going to experience. By that logic comedy anime should deserve the same treatment. "Oh yeah there's gonna be a joke coming, I can't make myself vulnerable enough and laugh."

I've been wondering about this ever since I saw shows like Clannad and Angel Beats for the first time. If you don't like these shows because they're sad knowing they're gonna be sad then what are you looking for in here? I wanna see it too.

I liked it. When you grow up you'll understand.

I read the original novel and it was interesting. Simple, amateurish prose but effective in communicating nonetheless. I did not like the manga because the interpretation of the characters is changed a lot and most of the stuff the mc does don't make sense due to lack of proper context. Also the art is mediocre.

I wouldn't associate 5cm/s with the titles you've cited, that movie wasn't trying to pull your heart strings via melodrama, it was a great depiction of distance slowly creeping in between people, compare that to something like Pancreas where it's all "lets just spend time together because I'm about to die teehee" or "here have my diary after I die for one last crybait scene".
it's just not the same thing.
Clannad is also one of those tragic endings that are done well, you don't watch it expecting for things to go south at the end, you watch it because you're genuinely invested with Okazaki and Nagisa's relationship, which is why the ending hits you as hard as it does unlike things like Anohana where you're already following some dysfunctional MC who couldn't get past his friend's death or whatever.
anyway my point is if your whole story is just focused around delivering emotional bait moments it will come off as shallow.

I don't think I'll ever like it, because I was born with a penis.

I hated it, thank god it was short

I'm the user here
5cm/s is not like the other ones I listed at all. And if you can't even tell the difference then you are one of the people with no taste. A show is not bad just because it's sad, but because the sadness is forced, and so blandly executed that you just know the author banked everything on the character death or miseries to evoke emotions instead of making an actually good and moving story. There're plenty of moving deaths in fictions and suffering an eternal theme in literature. It's just that shit shows like Angel Beats just convey it by telling you: hey those people died/passed on, now cry. Ffs Angel beats should have stayed a comedy. Anyway your point is fumb, it's like complaining that people shouldn't shit on jumpscare in horror movies. It's somewhat expected but you still roll your eyes if that's all it has to it

They actually just lack depth and you can't have tragedy without depth, that's what makes it forced. The characters lack personality and are only just there to suffer, the ones in this particular manga are just sad mopes that have bad things happen to them, but they're not characters you're invested in, same with something like 5cm, the idea might be good but the main character has no personality other than longing for his childhood crush and being a coward.
There are a lot of good dramas out there across all forms of entertainment and there are certainly a lot of great "suffering porn" too, these examples are just badly written and if you can't recognize bad writing then that's on you, pal.

I like it allot
