He's boring. He's just waiting around for the end of the manga so Zoro can fight him and win. There's nothing interesting they can do with that story. Zoro himself hasn't been interesting since he joined. His ending was known immediately and he doesn't really have ties to anything else in the setting, except for whatever strange origin for Tashigi that will eventually come to light. Some of these characters who have been around for a lifetime were tired a decade ago. I don't even dislike Zoro, not at all, he's just very much as shallow as a puddle and has had longer than most anons ITT have been alive to grow as a person or expand his horizons, but he hasn't, and his dream and final opponent reflect that.
