just wondering about the movies, should I watch them after i finish all the episodes, or are there certain points where i should watch each one, or is there one i should watch before i start the first episode? i wanna make sure i'm getting the optimal experience here

You can just watch the entire OVA series by itself and not miss anything, although there's no harm in watching the movies. My Conquest Is The Sea Of Stars is a prequel, and Overture To A New War is an extended cut of the first two episodes. The Gaiden series is there if you want some filler content, but save that for after finishing the main OVA.
