I've been reading the manga, and desu it's not as bad as I'd expect it to be, besides the fact that Gas will simply not croak and die already. Like, the Bardock fight was already pushing it, but if it ended on the UI + UE fight it could've been kino. Exactly. You have to train CONSIDERABLY before you can "use ki", whatever that means. Those guys are just nobody villagers. They haven't trained in martial arts a day in their lives. So Ten can't just teach them to "use ki". You have to build your way up. Videl could have unironically destroyed all of those guys before training with Gohan. She was already a pretty tough martial artist (for normal people, that is).
So, the point of all this is that you need to stop injecting your brown """ki user""" headcanon into Dragon Ball.
