774 dropped the ball with the disappointing amount of judo. Not kidding. Obvious relationshit should've been dropped in favor of a more expanded training scene. Shikki needed a proper chapter to establish what kind of judoka she is and what her style is. We've literally only seen her fight three times (the fight scene in the past where she lost to noodletoro, the hand hurtie scene and now the loss to the seoi nage scene). Orihara has 0 establishment proper beyond "lmao olympic level" but there's so much shit that has to happen before you become olympic (like the fucking nationals, or at least a mention of the individuals at the inter-high) that it just feels half-baked. Nagatoro could've been a fantastic judo manga and used judo as a fantastic underscore to the romance stuff but instead it's just Tororo's new amazing converse shoes.

I reread the typeset for 109 and it was actually a pretty cute and well written chapter
Still can't get over the fuming pile of shit that was 108, but at least it makes me believe that Nanashi hasn't completely lost the plot

Meh, I feel like the judo shit is at a tolerable level, the manga doesn't need antagonists or even well-developed opponents
I don't feel like it could have used judo as a good romantic underscore because it's precisely a manga about protagonists with different fields of interest getting interested in what the other is doing
And on the other hand, if judo is the narrative tool to make them kiss, I'll be pissed because their relationship is precisely about going out of their comfort zone (hobbies). Not to mention that it would be the worst artificial outcome for a relationship that so far progressed organically, but that's obvious

Nah, needs more judo. The manga is ultimately about Naoto learning to strive for something greater and not accepting half-measures and Hayase learning to face hardships head-on and not back away whenever things get tough. They help each other grow. Judo is great for that because Naoto learns from Nagatoro's growth and becomes a better support for her growth, creating a fantastic positive feedback loop. But for any of that to function, you need more judo. Senpai's already great at art. I mean, you can fucking tell. We had an entire arc to establish that as long as his heart's into it, he can draw amazing things. But Nagatoro's judo arc has been half-assed so far, and her growth, both mental and as a judoka, are hard to gauge because of that, especially since we don't get to hear her thoughts since Naoto's the narrator.

We need to kick out Stalker from here. I don't mind going elsewhere for dump threads, I do mind however faggots like this coming here.

I'll add that even Orihara's strength level is kinda hard to gauge because Tororo pulled a waza-ari on her despite not doing any judo for at least a year and a half or even more (since it seems she quit at either 3rd or 2nd middle year) and meanwhile Orihara hasn't been shown in a single fight except for the two Naga bouts. A single Shikki-Orihara randori would've been enough to properly show both of their power levels and give us some appreciation of what it means to defeat Shikki easily and how it poises a future proper fight with Orihara.

Alright why not have more Naga centered chapters indeed, but overall I think her thoughts and progress are properly described, even if she isn't a pov character. But it's also the point, Naga isn't a pov character. We're left to guess based off what Senpai sees and it's more of a strength than a weakness to the storytelling. It's not the same in sports context as it would be in shounen. Nagatoro's personal goal is defeating Orihara; thus, the reader needs to understand how difficult of an opponent Orihara is. In a story like this, the only proper way to do this is to establish an initial power hierarchy (or at least properly imply one) that shows who is stronger than who (and why; judo is very technical, after all). Why is Orihara strong? What makes her strong? Why is Tororo strong, for that matter? Why is Shikki strong bar her gigantic tits? I want to know those things to properly enjoy the judo more.
Besides, 774 just draws really good judo. I want more of it.
