Shirou never stood for anything before HF. He survives on the rotted, self-destructive ideals of the broken shell of a man that was his foster father. A tumorous goal that was never even his in the first place but sheer mimicry, just like his powers. There is nothing wrong with Shirou being inspired by Kiritsugu. What was wrong was Shirou doing everything in the most suicidal way possible because of his survivor's guilt, becoming a carbon copy of Kiritsugu, and overall destroying himself to achieve his dream. Rin helped him to stay true to his ideals and at the same time, achieve his dream in a way where he becomes better than Kiritsugu and doesn't repeat his mistakes.

imagine people having different interpretations of the story. You could also say that the original Shirou's ideals were achieved when he proclaims his ideal has always been to protect the people that he loves when talking to Sakura at then end after having the memories of Kiritsugu disappear at the end of HF after using Rho Aias. There are many ways to interrupt art and it's not a clear cut answer like you'd believe.

So, Shirou wasn't the first person ever in history to have a hero complex. How does that makes his ideals less worthy of following? Of course Kiritsugu had the savior complex first, no fucking way Shirou would've turned out the same if Kiritsugu hadn't raised him.
