Yamato is the worst kind of character you can have for transgender representation in a manga because Oda literally takes any opportunity he can get to show off her tits and feminine body, which Brook and Sanji are now lusting after.

Why does Twitter talk more about her than someone like Kiku, a character Oda actually tries to respect in terms of what gender the character identifies as?

Oda portrays Kiku as a man who really wants to look like, behave like, and even live like a woman. Meanwhile he portrays Yamato like someone who’s just LARPing. I never got tranny vibes from the character at all, hell Oda went so far as to have Kiku say “I’m a woman at heart” but treats Yamato wanting to be Oden as some sort of gag.

She's simply more popular so they badly want to claim her as trans and go "THE COOL CHARACTER YOU LOVE IS TRAAANS!!!" and say trans characters are popular

That doesn't explain why trannies IRL are desperate to become an attractive specimen of the gender they transition to. The vast majority are obsessed with "passing", they take HRT, they get surgeries, MtFs grow their hair long, FtMs grow beards, etc etc. Ironically they reveal a most deep-seated adherence to gendered appearances and norms. There are a few boomer men who say they're a woman while doing precisely nothing, but nobody takes them seriously, and rightly so.

If anything Yamato's attitude is most similar to the non-binary crowd since rather than wanting to be a man in general, she doesn't really care about her gender as long as she can do all the things Oden did. That said, non-binaries tend to try to make themselves as androgynous as possible.
