So I just finished prison school and this anime made me depressed. In the ending, everyone loses. The psycho loses, the MC loses, the love interest loses.
I feel hollow and empty now after finishing Prison school. Everyone lost in the end. The youthful and hopeful optimism of young love warped into the nihilism of adulthood. I can’t tell if this ending is a middle finger to the audience or secretly genius.
It’s almost like saying “Hey reader! Hope you enjoyed your time being a hopeful perverted kid, now you get to try hooking up with random ugly women at the bar in the hopes the two of you get along enough to shit out some kids

Everyone won, except Kiyoshi because he was always lying to Chiyo and didn't deserve her at all. Obviously, Hana was meant to be for him, but the manga remained true to itself and didn't just end with a confession and a kiss, it wasn't a shitty rom-com but a chaotic experience.

Neither do you, no-one gives a fuck. Prison School was a huge expression of contempt for his audience, I don't know what you expected.

desu it doesn't go anywhere satisfying and everyone ends up sad, but it's not that dark it just sucks because the final arcs a crappy and there's no payoff. It's kind of like Game of Thrones where the start slaps and then you should skim the last bit. His manga after that was pretty good
Honestly just go watch the anime uncensored. The dub is surprisingly good.
The tldr is five guys go to a formerly all girls school and find that it is secretly run by an underground school council that conducts bizarre methods of social control and enforcement. The worst being a literal prison built and hidden in the school. The five characters are sentenced to spend a month, which gets extended to two or three into the school. By the end of the time the boys are finished with their sentence there exists a degree of romance between one of the inmates and one of the women who is a guard. However this inmate actually likes someone else on the outside who is the little sister of the student council’s acting president.
The ending which is so shit is that she turns into a man hater by the end because while the main character is the protagonist, he also continues to lie to her to try to cover up the fact that he had to do shady shit in prison. The final few pages involve the guard who liked him exposing one final lie to his actual love interest to which she finally breaks down.
The main character loses the woman he likes (despite having more actual chemistry with crazy guard chick The crazy guard chick mentally breaks because in her desire for this man she ended up ruining her life at school along with two other people’s lives and last but not least the sweet girl who was lied to constantly and stuck her neck out for the main character was turned into a man hating bitch all because the author thought writing about a black blues man from the 1920’s Mississippi river delta should be more important to the Japanese manga/anime community than the kino piece of roman, comedy and drama he created with prison school.
Even with me basically spoiling everything, I encourage you to go read/watch it. It seems like a dumb fanservice anime at first but by the end of everything, however it is an emotional rollercoaster of an experience.
