I did this with OreImo, except I didn't realize my mistake until the season was nearly over. because of the way it ended, I didn't want to watch season 1, but I would have had a more enjoyable experience I think if I only watched season 1.

I think so. They all have books included. The promo codes for the gacha have long been used already but that's fine by me. Means I can get them real cheap. Got the whole season of priconne and uma musume s2, for 3000 yen each.
Fate/zero set 1 & 2: 6500 yen
Princess connect vol 1 - 4: 3000 yen
Uma musume S2 vol 1 - 4: 3000 yen
Gundam Hathaway: 3200 yen
Total: 15,700 yen
Shipping ended up costing me 8200 yen though. Mostly because of the weight. The priconne's were especially heavy. 6.1 kg total.
