It's still a struggle, just in the opposite direction i.e. for the girl and the reader. If the guy wasn't an oblivious inert retard and actually picked up on the hints and fucked his way through the harem, he wouldn't be relatable to the undesirable readers, if the girls weren't literal fantasy fiction and were instead hard to get like actual women, no one would want to read it.
