Rance is something I enjoy mostly as a spectacle. He's morally reprehensible and I'd probably (try) and kill a guy like him if I met him IRL. But in the context of the world where he's a violent, short-tempered, narcissistic rapist and still somehow the most heroic person alive he suddenly becomes fascinating as a character. The fact that he was designed by women who still write the women to hate his guts just adds to the spectacle.
