Watched the first couple of episodes with my sibling before going away when its all about "god is le bad", is it worth picking it up or is it like that all the way through?

Congrats user you don't have shit taste in stories, unlike 90% of the people here.

2003 or Brotherhood? Because the real problem with Brotherhood is that it was made close enough to the 2003 anime that it assumes you already know everything important and rushes through the first couple of arcs in a really shitty way. It gets a lot better around episode 13. As for 2003, it does get better as it goes on (although I think it stumbles right at the end) but the tone's fairly consistent the whole way. So if that's what's putting you off, you probably aren't going to start liking it later.

Never listen to Any Forums. Always make your own decisions

>is it like that all the way through?
A bit. Religious tension is a pretty important aspect of the setting, but it doesn't impact the plot much.
>is it worth picking it up
Yes. I had the same experience as you; watched a few episodes and thought it was pretty lame. But I pushed forward, finished it, and loved it.

I mean if you somehow listen to a schizo whos been spamming shitty fma threads thats on you he will be here any second btw

Edward has a complicated relationship with God, largely because he was into science from a very young age. His father's absent, and his mother died, leaving him to fend for himself and his brother all on his own. It's not really a "god is le bad" story, it's more so about people struggling with their mortality.

A significant part of the journey is about learning that alchemy isn't the end-all be power in the world and that trying to use it to subvert natural laws or appoint one's self to the level of God is bad. Edward already knows this for the most part (if not completely) because prior to the beginning of the story, he tried to create life and paid a bloody price.

How was the comedy, what came to mind when you saw these kinds of faces?

I finished both the manga and the anime.
When it comes to the comedy when I was reading the manga, I like it, it's goofy fun and doesn't take its jokes too seriously.

But when I was watching the anime, the comedy execution is kinda weird with the silly sound effects and funny face. But I just think to myself:
>well that's how usual 2000s anime comedy looks like
Overall, the comedy doesn't particularly ruin my enjoyment watching it.

I'll admit that the "edward is edgy atheist" episode turned me off a bit, but in retrospect, its more of a character episode than anything. Edward's experience with a "higher power" essentially cost him everything, so he tends to view people who trust in divinity as being hopelessly naive in understanding what they are dealing with. Edward at this point is chiefly concerned with taking back his and his brother's life, and he views relying on divinity as a sign of weakness first and foremost.

They kind of develop this much more, particularly way down the line in future episodes with Bradley essentially mirroring Edwards thoughts on this. Bradley views the Ishvalan belief in God as a cope to justify their own inability to survive their own genocide with some sort of karmic justice. To him, its essentially the last gasp of a doomed people who cling to the belief that there is justice in the world. Ironically, when Bradley is finally about to prevail in his duel with one of the last Ishvalans near the end of the series, its essentially an "act of God" that temporarily blinds him and causes his death (an irony that is not lost on him).

>overrated shounenshit
But it's exactly that.
Ed is garbage.

I did and I found it shit.

>he likes generic shit so he doesnt have shit taste
lmao

>a tier 3 shonen
>meh
>god is evil
>hooly shiiiiit its so fucking deep and well written

I think that's something that can work in print medium but is very easy to get wrong in an animated adaptation. You see the same problem in Hellsing Ultimate, for instance.

What did they mean by this?

Ed starts as an atheist and becomes more humbled as the show goes on. At least in the manga/brotherhood version. He supposed to be a prick who thinks he knows more but ends up admitting in the absolute end that he knows nothing.

No, it's massively overrated and literally has a scene that's basically "if you kill him you'll be just as bad as him!" don't listen to the MALtards here.
