Neither of that is true. It’s just a canon adjacent dbz film in anime format. It takes place in between v1-v2 also the whole au part is a nightmare of one of the girls. Honestly it’s just a fun project, nothing more and nothing less.

I hated and dropped the original series early but the anime version was legit nice. Nothing special but it looks good and had some good fights which means it's already better than most of the shitty LN adaptions I see every season.
I hope it does, the original show was fucking shit. I am not sure if it's all just the look, action and music or if the anime also changed a bit of the scenes themselves and I am not willing to check because I erased all memories of it other than how cringe it was.

Honestly plot isnt Shaft's fault. Ruby feels like a Mary Sue and has no clear connection to the antagonists (The Grimm). Yang's character development is just "Ruby's sister". The catgirl has good character development but I cant even remember her name. Weiss is good.
But either way first 3 episodes are action packed but I dont feel any connection to the characters. Would have been better if Yang got killed or something so that we can feel that emotional attachment. Ruby is always nice, got accepted to Beacon 2 years early, already can use a Semblance (which cute guy didnt even know existed yet and no other character has used). Shes a pretty obvious self-insert but this isnt a wish fulfillment show so its shit.

The scene for burning the candle had Monty heavily involved. He even made the decision for Adam to cut Yang’s arm and intwine her into Blake’s storyline. He literally was making the fight between Adam and Yang before he died.
