Berserk

In hindsight, I think we can all agree that the JRPG party was a largely unncessary addition meant only to fill pages with circular banter and quirky hijinks.
In an ideal world, only Farnese and Schierke would have joined Guts in his journey.

only Shierke is enough though

I forgot why Farnese joined, but I miss Serpico

>in hindsight
I was mad about this as it happened.

Firstly, Farnese never got any redemption. She just felt a little guilty during tower of conviction and then everyone just moved on as if she had somehow atoned for being a piece of shit inquisitor who liked burning people alive. I never forgave her for that and was rooting for her death right up until it became clear that the plot had simply moved on.

Almost as bad, everything was perfectly set up for Guts to kill Serpico in that one fight underneath the ballroom. I liked Serpico as a minor antagonist. A temporary ally who turns against you when it suits him is a great dynamic and I was excited for a tense fight that ended with Guts killing or seriously injuring him. And then that just didn't happen and Serpico got relegated to ensemble cast.

Isidro is good, but overstayed his welcome by sticking around after tower of conviction as well. Pulled a daring move to save Casca which felt like the peak of his character. He backslid as soon as they were out of danger and has pretty much just been annoying and occasionally funny since then. He's been ok with his fire knife and could have made for a genuinely good sidekick but he's been turned into such a little shit. Never serious at all, which isn't how he was when they started.

Schierke is perfect and has remained true to character since she was introduced.

In conclusion: Isidro is ok but got dumbed down hard. Serpico and Farnese should have died. Schierke is the only member of the crew actually relevant to the plot.

No, you dipshit. they're to show Guts recovering from the betrayal and the band of the hawk slaughtering. Being able to care for people more than himself is what separates Guts from Griffith and that line was blurring, leading to him almost raping Casca.

you have to admit they're annoying though

The same purpose could have been achieved with 2 people instead of 4. Hell, it could have been achieved for just 1 person, as Schierke is the one who does the heavy lifting when it comes to bonding with Guts.

Schierke is the most fitting anyway. All the most important times Guts has pushed someone away, it has been a young girl like Schierke. Theresia at the end of Black Swordsman then Jill in Lost Children. Jill has the greater effect on him, she's the one who actually triggers him to change. Whether he realizes it or not, he's atoning for abandoning Jill by accepting Schierke into his life.

based actual berserk reader

Miura's vision was that Schierke gets raped graphically and then gets a major powerup

she's from the anime race

Isidoro is the only character that's lacking in depth. Like Puck, Miura has relegated him to comic relief for ages.

The defending Casca from zealots and fighting off trolls were the last two times he was important.

There should have been plenty of opportunities for him to get something to do in the Sea God arc by interacting with Isma, but aside from getting a nosebleed at her bare breasts, that's about it.

He's suppose to be foil for Schierke, but all her scenes are with Guts or Farnese.

Oh, they are definitely annoying

save wanting the character you like getting the most screentime for fanfiction. Isidro is an innocent child who wants to be a soldier for the same noble reasons. Guts saw in the hawk that made him consider them family. He's the child Guts wanted to be.

Puck sucks dick but also acts as a conscience for Guts to make him at least second guess his actions.

Farnese shows that repentance and growth aren't impossible.

Serpico represents the restraint that comes with power.

Schierke isn't his girlfriend. She's a level head. Someone mature enough to understand how shit everything is but smart enough to know being shit won't make it better.

They exist to contradict everything his awful life has made seem indisputable ideologically. If people like them can live alongside him, the fear, insecurity, and rage hounding him can be quelled.

A story needs characters. Guts himself is boring and Puck is annoying af.

I disagree. I like the jrpg cast.
It gives Guts a reason to live besides hatred.

that started happening in the golden age but Pippin, Rickert, and Judeau weren't annoying. Gaston was but he was supposed to be, and even he had legitimate character moments justifying why he was the way he was.

I think Isidro is useful, he can have the life Guts never did, he can be like Guts 2.0 but without the suffering.

Yes I know the suffering builds character but I like how he can learn from Guts, grow up and not be a Black swordsman but still be powerful.

>Gaston was
No he wasn't.

Yeah absolutely.
Band of the hawk guys were top tier bros.
I only mean since they're all dead and Guts had to start over and give up the hatred again.

Serpico is based
Rodrick is also cool too
