One piece has degraded substantially, in fact it’s been degrading for its entire run. Pretty much every issue it has now was already present in early OP, but it slowly got worse and worse until no one can ignore it anymore.

The art quality has gone down the tubes. The lines are thick and ugly, there is very little depth now, it’s all flat like a gag manga.

Oda’s style went from a quirky unique cartoonish style to an abomination. It seems like he tries to make every new character look as ugly and retarded as possible.
>the paneling
Oda crams as many panels and reaction shots into the page as possible. When he actually has a chance to make a good panel he minimizes it so it is barely there. Most of the panels he adds aren’t necessary.
>the plot
One piece has always had a formula. You could make ignore it’s repetition at one point, but the series has gone on so long it is unavoidable. Almost every time the arc is the straw hats come to an island and at first everything seems fine, but everything is actually not fine because the island is controlled by some warlord and his crew. The gang gets separated and Luffy is given a tour by a kind young girl. Eventually each straw hat splits off and fights a enemy crew mate while Zoro takes on the second in command and Luffy punches harder until he beats the big bad while the population cheers. Or we have a rescue arc, where it seems like a straw hat is betraying Luffy, but Luffy says no and folllows them, and we learn that they didn’t actually betray the crew but had to leave becuase circumstances, and we learn their backstory and Luffy punches the person making them leave and they come back. Every characters backstory ends up being that they grew up in bad circumstances but met an inspiring figure who died. We’ve gone through this pattern probably eight times now. The current arcs are structured the worst because Oda keeps introducing new characters and cramming the story with literal who’s.
Why one piece isn’t good anymore
>the straw hats
This is the saddest one. The straw hats have become shells of their former selves. They are basically one note gags with almost no depth or uniqueness anymore. Their designs keep getting more over complicated and they just do stupid ugly ass super moves.
>the humor
One piece always had a somewhat childish sense of humor, but that was ok. But it’s just gotten way worse. We barely get decent jokes now, Oda seems to think all he needs to do to be funny is draw ugly surprise faces.
>the pacing
Holy shit. Why does he insist on dragging things out so much. It’s like he thinks the only way to top the previous arc is to make the new one longer. Luffy vs Kaido dragged to all hell. Oda seems like he has to include every single idea he has into his head. A character being a in universe cartoon as their power is a neat idea, but that doesn’t mean you need to shove it into one piece to give Luffy another new form.
The main reason this is happening is clear, it’s Oda’s ego. Oda already said he doesn’t accept suggestions and the editors are probably to afraid to criticize him. As a result no one is telling him where he is going wrong.
The one piece fandom is in complete denial about this and still sniff Oda’s farts and call them masterpieces. At the rate Oda is declining and with his intention clearly to make a massive final arc which brings back a ton of old characters, we are going to get an abortion of a manga so awful even they won’t be able to pretend it’s good.
This manga actually could have been good if Oda entered its final arcs around chapter 700-800 when he didn’t go full retard yet, and if editors actually pointed out where he’s slipping. Now all we have to look forward too is seeing the cool concepts old Oda came up with that could have been good if new oda wasn’t ruining them.
Why was doctor hiliuk such a better character than then Oden?
1. He wasn’t shoved down our throats, we didn’t need 5 characters telling us how much we should like him.
2. He was simple, a nice touching backstory, no over complicated bullshit.
3. He was funny, his comedy was actually good unlike Odens retarded nude dancing.
4. He was meaningful. You actually felt his connection with Chopper. No one gives a shit about Odens connection with Yamato or even Momo.
5. His design is unique but pleasant. Oden is just stupid and ugly like current one piece defenders.

Because he decided to run gags into the fucking ground for comedy effect while trying to be more serious about the manga and it comes off as completely retarded and forced. Not only that because he's constantly taking breaks due to his health the arcs drag on and on for ages and it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Plus he's started going more full shounen with the power creep.
Whole Cake was refreshing and even Punk Hazard was decent, but Dressrosa was a fucking travesty, Fishman Island drug on for way too long considering it was meant to be a power stop, and Wano is nothing but GUYS ODEN THO, HE'S THE JESUS OF JAPAN, ODEEEEN THE GREATEST MAN IN THE WORLD, A JAPANESE MAN, ODEEEN, remember Oden guys?

Hell DB didn't even get that until the Buu Arc and only largely because of Fusion and the general ridiculousness that was Buu and his transformations and reasonings compared to Frieza and Cell and even going back to King Piccolo, Tien, etc. Hell even Super has its moments between the movies and general stuff.
But Oden is Japanese, didn't you know that a strong Japanese man is the best character in the whole wide world? He influences everyone he meets, a strong proud Japanese man. Super amazing, much love, so hype.
Oden doesn't even have a connection to Yamato, she's just a kid playing Superman basically in her eyes and has taken it way too far. It's just a reason for Oda to give her a dumbass quirk/gag while also still wanking Oden down our throats.
