>both shows were implied to be flops in japan (which is not true)
>one received an intentionally bad dub, because we're supposed to believe the show was so bad it could have been "the room" for anime
>the other received a more respectful dub because "only americans could appreciate it for what it is, unlike the ungrateful japanese"
if the lesson here isn't to learn japanese, it's at least to talk with actual japanese on whether or not certain information is even true anymore
Ghost stories and cowboy bebop
"Cowboy Bebop flopped in Japan" has to be one of the most lasting myths among Western anime fans and it just refuses to die despite the fact that CB was the highest selling anime of 1998. Sure it did get canned from its original TV airing and was moved to a more niche channel, but that didn't stop it from gaining a fanbase. Heck, these days if you bring up Yamadera or Hayashibara, their CB roles remain among their most iconic.
>*bang*
;_;
I always wanted to see ghost stories without the tiresome tryhard dub. looks like a cute little show.
The "Eva had a small budget" thing is worse
It won tons of popularity awards too i think, so its pretty clear that the anime were pretty high profile back in the day.
The fact that it got a movie made back when that was an uncommon thing is proof that it wasn't a flop
Then watch it subbed. It's not like the shitty dub is the only version of it that exists.
Neither of these flopped is this another case of retards playing telephone
>Sure it did get canned from its original TV airing and was moved to a more niche channel
That was because it was considered too violent for the time. XD
I watched it subbed and it’s not bad. Le funny Reddit dub is cringe and the VA’s apologized for not being PC.
>I always wanted to see ghost stories without the tiresome tryhard dub. looks like a cute little show.
You do realize that most releases still have proper subtitles, right? They also have gag subs, which are also pretty funny.
yea, i wore a spike avatar on a japanese vrchat server, and a nip girl got excited and started talking about the broom scene in engrish
And that the story was complete with the anime series. It didn’t need a movie for closure, the fact that we got one, with great animation and music means that someone thought it would be a good idea to dump money on it. Nobody would do that if it was a failure.
I try to avoid dubs as often as possible even if all I want is to post a link to a scene on youtube. Neither English nor Japanese are my native language and I never saw an English anime dub that I consider good, no, cowboy bebop english dub isn’t good, neither is baccano. Metal Gear games have good English dub but since Kojima is a westaboo I’m sure he made the games with the english dub as a priority.
Ghost Stories didn't flop but it received a prime television anime slot between other popular shows, which means that it inevitably had tons of people watching it. Not a good indicator of quality or appeal. It received a rebroadcast in the 2010s and that was practically ignored. Look at the TV viewership for the rebroadcast if you don't believe me, it's relatively easy to find through search engines. The only thing worse than retards who cry about Ghost Stories being called a flop by normalfags because they've just now heard the dub for the first time are retards that can't do more than surface level research.
Of course they did. Because why would any western media have a pair.
I think FLCL has a good english dub that in some ways is superior to the japanese dub in terms of the characterization of some of the side characters.
I heard the same thing about Cowboy Bebop and Baccano. Show me a clip you think it is awesome as you say.
No.
Also it's been rebroadcast more than once.
>horror anime
How many of those even exist besides Yami Shibai?
>Tryhard dub
Still funnier than any comedy anime I have ever seen
It's a darker Yokai Watch for 2000s kids.
