Shit character in a shitty asspull manga

Unironically retarded. Not in a way justified by being a child. He's selfish on a level most people simply never reach. He goes apeshit over kite dying when he barely fucking new the guy simply because he had dictated Kite was more valuable than anyone else. He simply doesn't value life outside of his friends at all, on any level, on top of being a stupid and impulsive person who relies too much on instinct in his day to day life. He fully deserved to lose his power and I hope he dies.

His morals are largely based on whether or not he likes someone. He likes Killua, so he doesn’t mind that he’s an assassin. He likes Kurapika, so he refuses to see eye-to-eye with the spiders regardless of the comradery he’s witnessed between the spiders. He likes Kite, so he hates Pitou. He makes the same mistake with both the Phantom Troupe and Pitou, he looks at them both in black-and-white since it’s what suits his moral compass the best. Pitou showing humanity directly goes against Gon’s own set of beliefs, so he lashes out.

Don't pretend you wouldn't be angry too. Gon did nothing wrong.

Gon is a selfish person with good upbringing, Killua is a selfless person with bad upbringing

He is just a selfish kid who doesn't really realize that "bad" people can be "good" based on situation they are given. He is just dumb and sees the world in black and white

Not just kill him but also turn him into a zombie puppet that's used as a human punching bag for soldier ants. Threatening Komugi was kinda fucked up but his mental breakdown after seeing Pitou healing her was perfectly understandable, and displaying some antisocial behaviour while going through extreme mental stress is quite common

One of the best characters I've ever seen in any fiction. It's cool if you hate him or whatever. I can see that. Doesn't make it any less of an interesting character.
I actually love the polarization because:

He met Kite 1 (one) time.
I don't remember him meeting him at all beyond that until the arc where he died.

Most people probably like him though, which makes them more like Gon than they realize.

I used to be like you. Trust me you will be happier if you drop the whole moral compass thing and just do whatever you want. I got along real well with a murderer once, I didn't care that he was a killer for the mob.

Kite is the closest thing Gon has to a father figure. Why does this completely fly over people's heads? Fucking 2011.

He is stupid active kid living in a brutal world. He got himself into big trouble once and that's it. Unless Togashi lives long enough to return his MC to the story, Gon now is simply going to school.

Kite wasn't Gon's father figure, that's Leorio. Gon liked Kite just because Kite was trained by Ging.
