Nope we got stuck with siblingzoned Cagalli and shit for brains, no personality Lacus instead of Flay who died a quarter way into the show and then everyone realized her drama with Kira was the only thing carrying it in the first place.

In this case it was manipulation on Flay's side and the timing was good since the mission Kira was on took a toll on him. She wanted to have Kira be further under her influence.
