Even if you think it's a ridiculous pairing and IchigoxOrihime was a given from the start, it's kind of foolish to say that.
People ship characters who barely have any on-screen time together all the time. The plot of Bleach was driven by Ichigo putting himself in danger to save Rukia.

Yea but Rukia was a pal, any good friend would not hesitate to put his life on the line to lend you a hand regardless of whether you are a man or a woman. I personally never felt any kind of chemistry between the two besides pure friendship in arms. But Orihime on the other hand expressed her romantic interest in Ichigo on many occasions. Just like Abaraki for Rukia.

Kubo is a shitty writer and he knows it. He stuck "the girl" right there in the beginning so as to avoid having to organically develop any relationships. When people started to think IchiRuki was more than just a buddy thing, he made a up a perms-future-husbando for Rukia to kill it. He obviously had no interest in shipping at all.
