Why do people say popular=/good? If an anime is popular that means it has certain good aspects otherwise it wouldn't be popular. If it was bad it will stop being popular and people won't watch it so it can't be a bad anime. People might personally don't like it due to reasons but I believe if an anime is popular it has good aspects that people enjoy and thats enough for it to be a good anime.

The marketing team isn't pointing a gun to your head and forcing you to watch certain anime. Marketing plays a role yes but generally you will try the anime and if you don't like it you will drop it if its good you will keep watching its that simple.

You don't have to justify anything based on a alien value system. Just watch it. You can decide if you enjoy the things you experience or not. Discussing it results in the same recursive subject value discussion as evaluating a value system just returns to why you would or would not prefer to defer your own judgement to an external system.

Something that has no good aspects. I made it clear in my post a popular anime doesn't necessary mean that its the best thing to ever exist it simply has good aspects to it and people enjoy it so its not a bad anime.

Depends on the reasons for popularity. If you ask most people here, they would say they hate popular shit cause its actually braindead flashing lights for toddlers who can't appreciate a real "deep" story. This is partially true, but the more honest answer is that the anons are either too "smart" to understand (genuinely rare) or are too stupid to understand (almost everyone who is in this category thinks they are in the former, but they are the large majority here).

What usually ends up happening is that about 10-20% of the anons here have an actual refined taste in what they want and are deliberately picky about it. They know what they don't like, and are unafraid to share it and explain why. Best case scenario for them- they come off as the brave iconoclast who is willing to say the emperor has no clothes. This in turn creates people who also want to do this, but simply aren't either smart enough or refined enough to do so, so they just shit on everything thinking that they will come off as at best a brave iconoclast or at worst a random shit stirrer who will kill something "unjustly" popular.

You just kind of have to deal with it, since its pretty much the only place on the internet where shitting on popular thing constantly won't get you perma-banned.
