Why does the majority of anime put teenagers through so much Hell? Was there something in Japanese culture that caused this?

hey, sometimes they get to see boobs or god forbid cum once or twice as well

I think my professor in college told me it had something to do with Hiroshima.

It's cool. You don't need to make up absurd explanations for everything.

Thanks I'll repost there.

Your college professor is a fucking liar

Yeah, but it's a recurring pattern.

Putting your main characters through adversity is pretty standard for stories. Amping up the adversity to make things more intense is also common. The fact you think "the majority of anime" does this is more indicative of what you watch than anything else.

True I probably have not watched films like Jin-Roh, but guess what usually is popular with anime? Teenagers going through Hell. Live-Action films are usually the opposite of anime in that they usually feature adults in the situations most of these teens go through. The closest live action film I can give that relates to anime is Nightmare on Elm Street. Teenagers abandoned and where is their god now?

Even if what I am watching in anime isn't the most popular it still is a recurring theme. Like I'd say about at least half of all anime have at least someone who old enough to be in public school in them.

Create emotional connection between the characters and the reader.

Because most Nips apparently don't have lives after adolescent, so you have to do everything and be great by the time your a teen. Meanwhile in the West its pretty much known (at least for men) you aren't really expected to reach your peak until your 40s (look at the age of most capeshitters )

me watching Victory Gundam

Japan is actually a 3rd world country. :(

That's an interesting theory.

do please, what a trash thread

To become a MAN you first need to SUFFER.

And I was led back here by Otaku Culture.

Hey maybe it's because the target audience for anime are teenagers?

The economic bubble bursting.
Socially speaking it created a massive schism between generations.
On one side, you have the older generation that are looking at the younger generation to fix the (older generations) mistakes.
On the other side, you have a disaffected generation that refuses to participate in a society that betrayed them. (the advent of neets, parasite singles, hikkikomori, et cetera)

You can see how it's reflected in anime:
before the bubble burst, anime was about adults, professionals at the peak of their craft, accomplished at small arms, et cetera.
Post bubble it was a stronger message of children becoming heroes and saving the world/ japan.

Good argument, but comic books are for teenagers and they have adult characters.
