Togashi biting off more than he can chew ex:1013098132980213

As well written as this arc has been, I simply cannot defend how unnecessarily bloated the succession war is.
You can remove practically half of the princes and nothing about the plot changes in a meaningful way.
Because so many of the princes have these "unbeatable" nen abilities/beast it means we're going to have to devote multiple chapters to shit like "how do we defeat tyson?!".
The only princes that are necessary at this point are Benjamin, Camilia(kinda), Zhang, Tserriednich, Halkenburg(kinda), and Woble.
Having this complex of a plot would be excusable if the series was coming out at an acceptable pace. But seeing how after years off togashi comes back claiming he's got 4 episodes in the work (most likely meaning 4 chapters) it's just fucking annoying how slow this arc moves.
This isn't even mentioning how PRECIOUS pages are given to literal who's having a wall of text explaining their inner monologues about shit we the audience already know.
Taking all this time to develop these characters also feels pointless since either all but one of them die or Togashi pulls some cringe "the war is canceled and multiple princes get to live" bullshit which seeing how the graves of the princess seem to be tied to the black whale raises a whole bunch of questions if he were to go that route.
This isn't even mentioning the mafia war going on, the phantom troupe, zodiacs, or Kurapica hunting down the last of the kurta eyes.
If you want a good example of simplicity look at York New. There's really only 4 factions: Body Guards, Phantom Troupe, Hisoka, and Gon's group that are constantly interacting and pushing the plot forward at a good pace.
>you can't rush a masterpiece.
Fuck off. This story would legitimately be better if we didn't have to waste so much time on shit that isn't going to matter in the long run.
I just really want off this boat and back to the cool shit the story's been pushing since the chimera ant arc. Hopefully before togashi dies

Sorry about the image. I can't help how small it is.

This is now an ant thread.

that's a cute pic

Still on hiatus

I agree, yet I still think it's one of the best, if not the best ongoing Shonen with tons of depth, interesting lore, characters and rich action.

Remember when some people thought Fatty Fatty would win

I knew I shouldn't have sold my microscope

I feel like most of these princes are gonna end up as jobbers

>Because so many of the princes have these "unbeatable" nen abilities/beast it means we're going to have to devote multiple chapters to shit like "how do we defeat tyson?!".
Half of these have useless combat abilities though? The only dangerous ones are Tse, Halkenburg, Cammy and Benjamin. And they get the most focus so far

God I wish this story still had the ants in it.

Can't wait for Hunterfolk

The 5000 hybrid ants will become a big deal later, and the stuff with Gyro and Gon might be a set up for CA arc 2.0

Is this a pic for chimera ants?

This nigga saved a thumbnail

The ones that don't have combat abilities have abilities that will help them avoid combat so we're still gonna have to deal with for *insert amount of time here*.

Can agree with one and that’s inner monolques of literally who’s. I’ve reread the arc yesterday and can say that in the last like 3-4 chapters Togashu really lost his mind with explaining the same abilities through just some solders like 2-3 times, with just wall of text. I liked how Togashi explained tse ability, he did like three explanations of it in the same chapter with always different visual information. I guess in this last chapters approximately starting from 388 he kinda started confusing himself. Maybe that’s what took him so long? He tried to make everything in this work and look interesting at the same time?

what is this? a picture for chimera ants???

Yeah this arc is a kinda rough, its the first time Ive ever actually been close to “bored” when viewing HxH, hopefully all this setup leads to a really satisfying middle and conclusion. This series has always been meticulous and detail oriented for things that don’t necessarily end up mattering, but thats part of the appeal to an extent, but I still feel earlier arcs like Yorknew did it in a way that was more engaging. We also should recognize that the negativity is exasperated by the hiatuses, the ant arc is great mostly, but I absolutely could not fucking imagine following during its initial publishing, the palace invasion specifically must have been absolute torture to get through. Theres still a lot of cool things happening and Togashi has a great track record, so by the end it will probably end up fine at worst.

Didn't read.
