If hisoka was a girl she would have gotten killed off within 3 chapters. Togashi will never make a truly powerful main character be a female. He hates them that much.

II don't think it would matter much. Hisoka is interesting because he's a weird fightsexual pedo. It makes him a bit of an unstable wildcard that turns on people any time he thinks it will make a fight more interesting, like a more malicious and evil version of Goku in DBZ. The only big difference would be Hisoka having lots of coomer fans.
